Bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps)
The bearded dragon lives primarily in dry to semi-dry regions such as bushland, savannahs, and open woodland areas in central Australia . It often basks in elevated basking spots such as rocks, tree trunks, or fences.
It is predominantly a solitary animal , but can temporarily tolerate other members of its species in suitable habitats.
Bearded dragons are diurnal and spend a lot of time sunbathing to regulate their body temperature.
A special characteristic is their erectable throat pouch ("beard") , which becomes dark during threat displays or courtship.
Also typical is their high adaptability to extreme temperature differences and their omnivorous diet of insects and plant matter.
