Tree python (Morelia viridis)
The tree python lives in humid tropical rainforests in New Guinea, the Aru Islands, and northern Australia . It is highly arboreal and spends most of its time in bushes and trees, often near the ground or close to clearings.
He is a pronounced loner and exhibits clear territorial behavior towards other members of his species.
Tree pythons are predominantly nocturnal and spend the day curled up quietly on branches.
A special characteristic is the juvenile color change : young animals are often yellow or red and only turn green later.
Also typical is their ambush hunting style from the classic S-shaped resting position, as well as their strong attachment to fixed resting places in the branches.
