Crown gecko (Correlophus ciliatus)
The crested gecko lives in humid, tropical rainforests and bushy vegetation zones in New Caledonia , where it is mainly found in shrubs and low trees.
He is predominantly a solitary animal and only shows interest in other members of his species during the mating season.
Crested geckos are nocturnal and spend the day hidden in foliage, bark crevices, or tree forks.
One unique feature is the lack of movable eyelids – instead, they clean their eyes with their tongue.
Also typical are the comb-like skin protrusions above the eyes and along the back, as well as the ability to shed the tail in case of danger , which, however, does not grow back.
